After graduating HS in New York State, I went to college in Texas. I was stunned not only at what we were being taught in college history, but also how my professors stood "by the books." One day when lectured about all-male presidency runs I asked, "What about Victoria Woodhull?" I got a sneer. Later, the professor told me that the college took issue with him straying off the textbook, even if challenged by a student. I learned to just keep quiet there on out. That never sat right with me.
