While I agree that Facebook ads aren't doing so much for the big companies, there are reasons to advertise beyond sales. Consistent reinforcement of trademark protection is one of them. As is protection of current sales trends. There's a much bigger picture here.

Nonetheless, the current campaign isn't going to be enough to put any serious dent in Facebook's bottom line. There are plenty of smaller companies willing to compete for great positioning at slightly lower rates.
